Mucosal inflammation and bronchial hyperreactivity.

چکیده
Asthma is a chronic disease characterized by increased bronchial responsiveness ranging in degree from mild ~o severe. AU:Way inflammation has been receiving 1ncrcased auenuon as the major mechanism in bronchial hypcrrcsponsiveness. Many stimuli known to induce airwa~ inflam~ation ~lso i.ncrease bronchial reactivity, e.g. v~ral rcsp1ratory mfectJOns, ozone, antigens and chem1ca ls such as toluene diisocyanate (TDI). ~nflamma~ion should be understood not only as an mcrease m the number of inflammatory cells, but also as including an increase in the bronchial blood flow and vascular permeability leading to mucosal oedema and epithelial shedding. The time sequence and severity of this inflammatory process in the pathogenesis of asthma is not known, although some information of the separate events has been obtained in recent studies (LAITINEN et al. [1]; BARNES [2]· PERssoN [3)) •

Evaluation of the Effect of Onosma Bracteatum Wall (Boraginaceae) On Bronchial Hyperreactivity in Sensitized Guinea Pigs
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways. The available treatment options have major limitations owing to low efficacy, associated adverse events and compliance issues. Therefore, the health burden of bronchial asthma is increasing globally at an alarming rate, providing a strong impetus for the development of new therapeutics. Onosma bracteatum ( O. bracteatum ) is know...
متن کاملPrevention of antigen-induced bronchial hyperreactivity and airway inflammation in sensitized guinea-pigs by tacrolimus.
We examined the effect of the immunosuppressive agent, tacrolimus (FK506), on antigen-induced bronchial hyperreactivity to acetylcholine and leukocyte infiltration into the airways of ovalbumin-challenged guinea-pigs. Subcutaneous injection of 0.5 mg/kg of FK506, 1 h before and 5 h after intra-nasal antigen challenge prevented bronchial hyperreactivity to aerosolized acetylcholine, eosinophilia...
متن کاملBlood eosinophils, leukotriene C4 generation, and bronchial hyperreactivity in formerly preterm infants.
Infants born prematurely are known to display longstanding bronchial hyperreactivity. The mechanism responsible for this is still unclear. Eosinophils are thought to play a central part in the development of bronchial hyperreactivity in asthma. It was the aim of this study to assess the relation of bronchial hyperresponsiveness to potential markers of eosinophilic inflammation in peripheral blo...
متن کاملRelationship between Methacholine Challenge Testing and exhaled nitric oxide in adult patients with suspected bronchial asthma.
Usually, hyperresponsiveness to inhaled methacholine is considered closely associated with a diagnosis of bronchial asthma. Recently, it has been clearly pointed out that bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) is not a constant feature of asthma and that this condition is not always related to airways inflammation. In the present study we evaluated 42 Patients (21 positive and 21 negative for bronchia...
